The Kentucky Derby is an American tradition like no other. The reason it appeals to such a wide audience is less to do with the sport itself and more to do with the overall spectacle. So when asked to create that year’s campaign, I felt compelled to focus more on the wider-reaching appeal. The party, the fashion, the signals of spring. The “Kentucky” music track was the perfect marriage of tone and lyric to provide the soundtrack for the on-air content.
What grew out of the initial commercial concept was a full digital campaign as well as custom printed invitations for select influencers. The campaign also benefitted from press coverage, resulting in a highly successful effort in promoting the event of the season.
